Helen Chadwick
Songs for Women's Voices
11-13 April 2025

Helen Chadwick has stepped in for Helen Porter who was originally going to run a weekend of singing development and technique. Helen Chadwick is sharing her songs for women's voices.

Helen C's early songs were mainly written for women’s voices as she was in two long term female acapella quartets and still sometimes performs with some of those singers.
Several of the voices in these groups could go down into the tenor range as well as singing middle and high, as many women can, so these songs are composed for all three ranges. Sometimes the voices swap who is high and who is low within a song.
We will move between the higher and lower parts of our voices during the weekend as we move between songs and parts.
We will spend the weekend singing these early songs. Most were written for three and four voices, occasionally for more.
Helen will also bring a few songs and sketches for female voices that have never been performed or recorded - not yet that is! These will include songs from a song cycle called SONGS FOR THE FOUR PARTS OF THE NIGHT which involve some shadowing and following of four voice parts in quick succession, all on the same tune.
Helen Porter and Helen Chadwick are close friends and collaborators, having worked on five song theatre shows together. Their work is different but complimentary. So there is a happy coincidence for both that these dates can still be singing dates at Hill Cottage.
